Porsche Boxster Spyder

The Porsche Boxster always has something of an image problem. No matter how good it is (and they are all great cars) it is always seen as being a car brought by people who can't afford a 911.  I personally think that is unfair and bearing in mind up to 80% of the parts are shared with it's iconic brother, I sometime wonder if it's actually the 911 owners who pay to much for their cars.

Anyway in an effort to produce a Boxster to appeal more to enthusiasts rather than squash players, Porsche have launched this the Boxster Spyder. Porsche describe it as being inspired by the 550 spyder racing car of the fifties but the styling itself is clearly taken from the Carrera GT. It also features the other go fast options of more power and less weight than the regular Boxster.

Part of the weight saving involves the deleletion of the power hood, instead a rain shower only hood similiar to that seen on the Ferrari F50 and Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster is provided. While that may be okay on a warm day only car like the two Italian exotics, I suspect this may limit the appeal of a £44,000 car in the UK.

Personallly I think it looks cool, something that cannot be said of most modern Porsches, the lack of roof would deter me a little but it would make a great second or third car perhaps to keep at a warmer overseas bolt hole.
