Found in the Classifieds: Jaguar Bertone Pirana

This is something you don't see everyday. Lurking in the classifieds of carandclassic.com is this one off Bertone bodied Jaguar E Type named the Pirana.

Shown at the 1967 London Motor show the Pirana remained a one off and was actually commissioned by the Daily Telegraph newspaper as a concept of the ideal car, one suspects that any newspaper today would commission a small hybrid city car rather than a  grand tourer

Designed by Marcello Gandini, it's a very successful design although it still betrays some of its E Type underpinnings in the track and wheelbase. There are clearly some elements of the design that went on to be used in Bertone's subsequent Lamborghini Espada.

The full advert can be found here, it's for sale in the US although the car is right hand drive.
