Gooding & Co at Monterey

Following my picks from the Monterey auction here are my three picks from Gooding & Co's auction.

The first pick is also the star car of the Auction. The Ferrari 250SWB "SEFAC" Hot Rod. The SEFAC's were the ultimate development of the SWB with ultra lightweight bodies and more powerful engines. This example has a cast iron and Ferrari certified history, and took 3rd place overall in the 1961 Tour de France. The sale concides with a special display of the SEFAC hot rods at this years Pebble Beach concours to celebrate 50 years of the SWB. The estimate is $6-8 million which seems a little optimistic to me for a SWB even for one as good as this although it only takes two people to create a market.

A preview of up coming auctions from me would not be complete without the inclusion of a Ferrari Daytona. This one is a one off Pininfarina bodied special (est on request). Losing the fast back style of the Berlinetta this example is not a Spider although the rear window is removable, it also features a longer rear deck than a Spider. Great for the collector who wants something unique, I prefer my standard model thank you. Incidentally both the Mecum and RM auctions include Factory Daytona Spiders.

At $2 -2.6million the Ferrari 340 America Spider with coachwork by Vignale is a gorgeous early Ferrari. Like the 375 at the RM Auction this car will get you into the best events and has a wonderful style. It also comes with Ferrari chassiche certification.

Finally my more reasonable priced pick is a Rare Lamborghini Islero (est £150 -200k). The Islero is actually my favourite Lambo with it's subtle looks it exudes late sixties cool.  Not a great success when new only 125 were sold (plus another 200 or so of the updated Islero S, the market's relative lack of appreciation of the early front engined Lambos keep the prices lower compared to the equivalent Ferraris.
