Goodwood Revival Bonhams Auction

Next weekend is the Goodwood Revival, for many (me included) the highlight of the classic motoring calendar.

Bonhams will he holding their usual auction on Friday evening, featuring a selection of automobilia and classic cars.  The star car is a C Type Jaguar that competed in the 1953 Mille Miglia.and is estimated at £800,000 to £1,000,000.

Looking through the lot lists something a little cheaper caught my eye in the form of a BMW 3.0 CSL.  This one is fitted with the full Batmobile kit and also features uprated suspension and a five speed gearbox (not stated in the catalogue but I'm guessing it's a unit from a E24 6 series) although the original 4 speed unit is also supplied with the car. The car only has two owners from new and has been subject to full restoration, something not unusual as the thinner gauge steel used to make the CSL is notoriously rust prone.

Estimated at £27,000 - £32,000, this represents  great value when compared with rival seventies homologation special the the Porsche 911 2.7 Carrera RS.

From the same era as the CSL but a  very different beast is the Lamborghini Espada. The Espada is a uniquely styled four seater GT car and actually the most successful front engined Lamborghini in terms of sales. It was produced from 1968 to 1978 in three separate series and this particular example is a late Series 3 example with revised interior. It has also been subject to a six year rolling restoration, which I suspect cost a lot more than the  £18,000 to £22,000 the car is estimated to make.

I will be at the Revival next Saturday and Sunday (although I am unable to make the auction on Friday), a report and photographs will follow.

The full catalogue can be found here.
